Olive harvest festival 2019
Canaan has reintroduced the traditional olive harvest festival to the fair trade farmers of the Palestine Fair Trade Association, after it disappeared under the long time occupation. This year marked the 14th annual Jaru'a, a source of pride to the farmers and a culturally significant event.
And what a celebration it was! Held on the Canaan grounds, there was Musakhan - the olive oil and chicken harvest meal, sage tea on the fires, fresh olive oil from the press, taboun bread cooked over the coals in an olive wood oven. Live music - of course! - by a renowned singer of traditional songs who is a big favorite; he personalizes the songs with local references. They dabked all day!
Internationals are always welcomed in the historically inclusive Palestinian society. Do try to come next year. You will be most welcome.
