Some climate responses return to traditions that worked for centuries before our industrialized era. One of the oldest is farming in terraces built into the hillside. They are on nearly every continent.

They make the most of scarce water, keep soil warm, and can even reduce fire risk. Terraces might be old, even ancient, but they have a place in today’s warming world. Look at the farming terraces in Palestine as a climate saving act.
