Peace Corps for Palestine

Zababdeh sheep for model regenerative farm in Palestine

The CORE Organic Model Farm in Palestine has received a grant from the Columbia River Peace Corps Association (CRPCA) for building a sheep shelter and pen.

The sheep pen allows the addition of animals to the model farm. Animals create bio-diversity and environmental balance. They create a closed system where energy and nutrients are recycled: their manure increases soil fertility and weed management as compost, and their milk, meat and fleece production can be sold to make the farm self sustaining.

The sheep shelter will allow for expansion of the herd and have places for feed, storage, silage and a bio-gas unit to generate energy for the farm and provide warm water.

The Organic Model Farm is being built as a successful model of cooperative, organic and sustainable farming that motivates and trains others. The Farm serves the worker farmers and their families, women's cooperatives who work with home gardens, researchers and extensionists for training, and local school students and their families.

CRPCA is an association of returned Peace Corps volunteers living in the Portland, Oregon area. They are committed to ideals of service and community, at home and abroad.

We thank them for believing in this project in Palestine, and their generous grant which will partially fund the sheep shelter and pen.
