Almond tree blooms in the fertile red soil of Palestine

The Guardian, 12 February 2016 sustainable business section: Organic almonds sow hope in Palestine

The non-profit Canaan Center for Organic Research and Extension (CORE) is helping Palestinian farmers build a global almond production, the Guardian newspaper in the UK reports. Native Palestinian almonds are widely prized for their size and flavor, even though water and land are in short supply due to natural reasons like climate and manufactured ones: the military occupation. And under occupation they lack governmental institutions to support farmers. CORE's mission is to fill the need for genuine agricultural research and reliable extension services.

CORE projects like last year's almond seed wasp education and training program that attacked the pest that was claiming over 50% of the crop have paved the way for eventual doubling the almond orchards in Palestine, and converting them to organic and fair trade. You help The Land of Canaan Foundation support CORE's projects that sustain farming communities in Palestine. Read the entire article here.
