Mapping Palestine
Palestinians have been excluded from maps of their own land, from the start of the British Mandate to the present day. Even satellite images like Google Earth use low resolution or leave places inhabited by Palestinians blank.
Palestine Open Maps has published historic maps online that you can navigate. They show the geographic and social markers of Palestinians' connection to and possession of the land.
Our projects in Palestine work with farmers who have had generations of family on their land. Maps verify their memories and connections. They recognize the past, are a means of resistance, and help imagine the future.
Thanks to our friends at Al-Shabaka, the Palestinian think-tank, who presented this analysis. See Palestine Open Maps for historic maps of Palestine that you can navigate.
